Following on from Brad Nguyen’s recent presentation about setting up a knowledge-rich curriculum, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to detail the big ideas and guiding principles that have underpinned the development of the English curriculum at Docklands Primary School where I am the English and Literacy Leader. I discuss curriculum design and mapping with examples, unit design and development, and essential resources for teachers and students. An integrated approach to instruction that gives equal weight to learning, reading, and writing is also described.
